Introductions

I see we have Coach Katie and Krista from the Monday night Couch to 5K joining us- welcome! I would encourage everyone to post their own introduction. You can comment on this post, or you can make a post just for you with pictures of you. I look forward to getting to know all of you through the blog and through our runs. Let me know if there is anything I can do!

  1. Well, here goes nothing! :) I'm Krista and I've signed up for this class because I don't run. I sprint- I play tennis and grew up playing softball- short bursts of energy work well for me. Endurance is not my cup of tea- I can easily talk myself out of continuing to run. :) Yet another reason for signing up for the class- I figured someone (besides my husband!) would be able to 'encourage' me to push it. My husband began running last spring and has completed 3 5K's, 1 10K and is training for a half-marathon being held on Dec 6th in Scottsdale, AZ. The half marathon also has a 5K and I want to run it (my main reason for signing up). I've walked 3 5K's this summer and want to push to run them. I have been sick for the last two weeks and haven't had the chance to run (which makes me mad actually!) but I'm hoping to be able to catch up this week. I hope to be pushed (nicely!) into lengthening my endurance in this class. I hate being the last person in and it's frustrates me, but I keep telling myself that everyone has to start somewhere! :)

  2. Hi! I am Kim (from the morning class) and started exercising regularly about 7 years ago. Before then I was a very overweight teen and adult. I turned my life around, got rid of approx 50 pounds through diet and exercise. I ran several 5 and 8K's when I was at my peak. I was also fortunate to participate in the Portland Marathon in 2003. But...in more recent years I have had two babies and exercising is hard to squeeze into my day. I want to get there but it has not been a priority and I have let it slip. I like to exercise, I just needed the motivation of a group (and shelling out some money) to get me there regularly. It makes a big difference for me knowing that there are people waiting to greet me on Monday morning. :) Since joining the group I have made a workout buddy that joins me at the gym on Tues,. and Thurs nights. It is a slow process to get back into it, but I am loving it!

  3. Krista- Nice to meet you! I love that you have a goal to work toward. I am sure your hubby is proud of you. No worries about being last- running is very individual. Just do your best and it will get easier, I promise!

Kim- It has been fun getting to know you this past year. You have inspired me in many ways. Having a person to meet up with makes all the difference in the world! You are doing great!
